SUCH A TIME AS THIS
During my teen years in the 70’s/80’s, I felt like I was born out of time and out of place. In High School, it seemed like we missed out on all of the fun stuff, like bellbottoms and the hippie movement. We had some great music though that spilled over onto us from that movement and is still popular. Some of those lyrics are timeless. It’s one of the reasons I wear bellbottoms now when I perform. I take something from the old and add the new to it. The computer revolution was just starting, having one job/career for life was fading away, and just a lot of other changes. Some of what we were being told, by well-meaning people was becoming obsolete and wasn’t going to help us in our future. There are nuggets of wisdom to take forward, and some to toss in every generation.
I went into the Air Force for electronics, very briefly, with a medical discharge from Lackland Air Force Base in 1980. I came back and continued working for HEB. Then I tried all kinds of other things trying to find my place, oil field, air conditioning, building, sales, etc. It just seemed like I couldn’t find a steady foundation to get my footing. Things were shifting, not chaos, but TRANSITION, just like now!
It reminds me of a clip in the Superman movie when Clark took the crystal and threw it. The earth erupted as his new fortress came about. That’s the type of TRANSITION I’m talking about. There was a whole lot of shaking and movement to create the new. The old had to move out of the way for the new. Like separation in a rocket going into space. It served its purpose but became a hindrance to the new.
Little did I know that all of these job experiences would give me the necessary skills and knowledge to help me do what I do today. I was a jack of all trades and master of none to hear others tell it. That really hurt because it was spoken in a negative way. I tell young people today not to worry about what they are going to do with their life, especially by the time they are 18. Take each day at a time and treat it as an adventure. The Lord has His wonderful plans for us, Psalm 139, if we’ll just ask Him everyday. It doesn’t mean we can’t make long term plans, it just means that we need to be open to change along the way, TRANSITION. In fact, He knows all of the changes that will take place, so if we’re walking with Him daily, we’ll be ready for the change.

I didn’t know I could write songs until I was 26. Now, I’ve written over 400 with 3 albums and 5 singles and working on two new albums. All of my experiences go into the lyrics I write to pass on to others to help them in their journey. Encouraging! Challenging! Fun! MY MUSIC
Our world is in turmoil and chaos right now, or so it seems. On the surface, everything looks very bleak and dismal. However, if we look below the surface just a bit, we can see what’s really happening. I wrote about this in my 5 book fiction saga, ISLANDS IN THE SEA. I started writing it in 2009 from revelations I was receiving from the Lord as I wrote. It was an amazing adventure for me to experience. I was seeing visions in heaven. In book 5, I was actually taken there in a vision. Incredible! MY BOOKS
I now realize that our generation is in a key position to help steer the course in this TRANSITION of the world. Some of us are in these key positions. We’ve already been this way before, down this path. We know what uncertainty is all about and we know how to navigate it with the Lord’s guidance. We can help be the calm in the STORM! A LIGHT down a darkened path for those without HOPE and living in darkness!
In just a few words, the book series talks about one kingdom crumbling while another is rising. Darkness can’t stand before the Light that is starting to rise. Even as it tries to cover its lies and deception, it is being uncovered and broadcast to the world. My fiction book series is really cool as I never planned anything. I simply wrote what I was seeing from cover to cover. It was like I was reading it and recording it from heaven. If we look at the uncovering in the news, in politics, in businesses, churches, etc., cell phones and cameras are helping to reveal everything. Jesus said that everything whispered in secret would be shouted from the rooftops. Welcome to 2024!
So, I say this to my generation, “Look up! It’s time to rise up and help those around us. Extend your peace and wisdom to them. Those skills we used back then before computers, the internet, and cell phones are invaluable and the most valuable are the experiences we have to share. The times have changed and there are different tools to use, but the basics of humanity are still the same. We all need each other. We don’t need isolation. We need touch and hugs. Virtual stuff does a bit, but can’t take the place of human touch. There is an energy that is transferred from person to person in touch. We need to be heard and accepted. We need to know why we are here so we can walk out our destiny. Go For Your Dreams!
Did You Know? The word RETIREMENT is not in the Bible! In fact, it is quite the opposite. Jesus told this story…
Luke 12:16-21, “Then He told them a parable, saying, “There was a rich man whose land was very fertile and productive. 17 And he began thinking to himself, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place [large enough in which] to store my crops?’ 18 Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my storehouses and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many good things stored up, [enough] for many years; rest and relax, eat, drink and be merry (celebrate continually).”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own all the things you have prepared?’ 21 So it is for the one who continues to store up and hoard possessions for himself, and is not rich [in his relationship] toward God.” AMP
Selfishness is the key here! Hoarding! Wealth is meant to be shared to help those who are less fortunate and to create the new inventions that the Lord has recorded in books in heaven. The wealth that this rich person accumulated ended up getting shared without him in the picture anyway. All his work was in vain to him as he didn’t get to enjoy the rewards. He could’ve enjoyed the journey.
SUCH A TIME AS THIS | Finding Our Place!
We are here to help others. It’s built into our DNA. One of my new songs speaks to this. When we stop learning and growing, we start dying. There are many accounts of those who were so excited about retiring and kicking back and in a short time they were dead. Their bodies couldn’t handle the sudden TRANSITION from lots of work, and stress, to nothingness. It was like a trauma to their body. Not saying you can’t retire from a job and do something else constructive and get some much-needed rest. We need to take the wisdom we’ve gained and share it with the younger generations. We’ve been given so much and we need to give back to make this world a better place.
It’s not that this younger generation doesn’t want to listen to wisdom. They do! They’re scared and they are reaching out for help! They are listening to whoever appears to take the time to love and care for them, even if it’s a stranger lying to them.. When they feel love, they tend to trust. We do too! Throwing words at anyone without love accomplishes nothing, I Corinthians 13. Sometimes we have to get in the trenches with them and really see where they are in order to be of help. I’ve seen this in over 10,000 rides and conversations I’ve done with LYFT. I’ve talked to so many and gained so much knowledge in this.
